In the last week, the boat next to mine was sold, renovated, and rented. In a couple of weeks, it will be moved. So, there will be a space open next door! Does anybody need covered moorage?
Finding moorage on Lake Union is difficult. There are lots of rules. Liveaboard vs non-liveaboard. Boat (motor) vs sailboat vs houseboat vs floating home vs house barge. Covered vs non-covered. Pets or no pets. It can make your head spin. Then you have to find the right size. So, even though you have the ability to move your boat, it can be difficult to find the opportunity.
When I moved my houseboat to it's current moorage, I intended to use the front door as my main door. But my inexperience showed from the beginning when I did not use a tape measure. I have a finger slip that extends past the front door, but to get to the door, you have to straddle a telephone pole sized support. Not a good thing when you're walking dogs, carrying bags and groceries. So, my main entry is the back door, through the bedroom. I'll try to do better when I move someday. But, there's room between my boat and the next one at this marina. The old slip had my boat leaning against the fender of the boat next to it. You could reach through the window and touch the next boat. And the finger slip was very shaky, so even though you could walk straight down to the front door, you didn't want to. It's all a trade-off. So, there's moorage and pretty good moorage and perfect moorage. Heaven is when you have the perfect boat and the perfect moorage!
Living on a houseboat in Seattle is a unique experience and one that I've looked forward to for years. But, if you have no boat experience whatsoever, it's even more interesting.
